In May 30, 2022, we, the integration course B1.2, visited a museum in the Haus der Kunst with our teacher Christiana. There we saw the exhibition “Living Fog”, the first exhibition of Fujiko Nakaya in Europe. For some of us it was the first time we visited a museum.
Nakaya was born and raised in Sapporo in 1933. Fujiko Nakaya studied art in the USA and later also in Paris and Madrid. In her early paintings, which are also shown in the exhibition, she dealt with natural phenomena. Fujiko Nakaya’s fog sculptures are made of water. The sculptures change every moment depending on the temperature, wind and atmosphere. The almost 90-year-old herself came to Munich to help set up the installations.
The relationship between people and nature is especially important to her. She was influenced by the studies of her father, Ukichiron Nakaya, who was a well-known physicist. He has created the first artificial snow crystal. This was all explained to us by a very friendly museum educator. We understood almost everything.
Afterwards we went to the terrace of the Golden Bar and enjoyed coffee and cake. At the end we watched the surfers in the Eisbach.
During this visit we had so many unforgettable experiences.
