Three outstanding musicians, who have lived and worked in Munich for many years, take us on a journey through the soundscapes of Afghanistan – a country whose musical traditions are deeply rooted in the classical music of South Asia and radiate far beyond its borders.
- Munir Ahmadzai, known under his stage name Munir Khan, presents vocals and harmonium. The Indian harmonium, similar to the accordion, is traditionally played while sitting on the floor and accompanies the singing with warm, carrying sounds.
- Abdul Samad Habibi plays the Ruhbab, an Afghan stringed instrument that resembles the Indian Sarod in its timbre and touches the listener with its deep, resonant tone.
- Parviz Ayan brings rhythmic precision and lively dynamics to the performances with the tabla, an Indian percussion instrument.
All three artists come from Afghanistan and began their musical training at a young age. They have cultivated and developed their passion and skills over the decades. The music they play is influenced by the classical Indian tradition as it is alive in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
On this evening, Munir Ahmadzai and Abdul Samad Habibi will perform one after the other – each accompanied by Parviz Ayan on the tabla. Together they create a musical experience that builds bridges between cultures, generations and hearts.
Admission is free – a donation for the musicians would be greatly appreciated!
